Congratulations! You have completed your current studies and are ready for graduation. This next phase of your life should have you feeling accomplished and prepared for the next step. But, before you begin that next step, there is the business of graduation.

Some students wait their entire lives to put on a cap and gown and receive their diploma, while others may be receiving a second degree and previously walked, not have the personal time or are just simply uninterested in the ceremony. So do you have to walk at your graduation? The short answer is no, graduation at Everglades University is not mandatory and it is your choice whether or not you choose to attend. We do, however, highly encourage it as it is a great opportunity to celebrate your accomplishments.

If you do choose to walk at graduation, here is what you can expect:

The graduation ceremony for Everglades University is held at each specific campus. Students will receive a cap and gown at the homecoming reception, which takes place the night before the ceremony. If you do not attend the reception, you can pick up your cap and gown when you arrive for the ceremony. If you qualify for regalia, those will also be available. There is no cost to Everglades students for these items and you are free to keep them after the ceremony ends.

During the ceremony, students will hear from professors, faculty and staff before being called up one-by-one to honor their achievements personally. A professional photo will be taken, but family and friends are welcome to take photos from their seats as well. One thing you may not expect, though, is that you will receive a fake diploma as you walk. Your real diploma will not be given during graduation, but instead will be mailed to your home once all departments have cleared you for graduation (sometimes, this may take longer and not be finalized until after graduation). If your diploma is delayed, you will still be able to walk in graduation and can expect it during the next applicable quarter.
